Building Your “GURU Factor”

“I know more about that subject than they do..”
“I’ve got a lot of knowledge to offer, I should be contributing somehow..”

A GURU is a recognized authority, with significant experience in overcoming challenging issues in their field. Someone accepted as a thought-leader.

In a Trials context, it could be someone with credibility in an area such as Trials training, bike setup, technique analysis, competition experience, demo experience, product design or even marketing experience.

The GURU is an S.M.E: Subject Matter Expert
Do a Google search of your name, and see what the internet thinks how you are an S.M.E!

Begin with the end in mind: Determine what it is you want to achieve.
- More demo’s
- Funding for training
- Sponsorship
- More hits on Youtube

Secondly, what area of expertise do you want to be known for?
- an incredible competition rider
- attention getting marvel
- powerful / technical rider skills
- expert bike technician
- facilitator of growing the riders & sport
- visionary for the future of competitions, riding, component designs, skill sets..

Who’s attention do you need to get?
- Do you want to be known nationally? Within competitions, on line, to marketers?
And lastly, How to Get the GURU Factor:
- involvement with developing the sport
- get articles published through recognized mediums
- win competitions

- land high profile demonstrations
RECAP:
1.    How are you an S.M.E (Google?)
2.    What is your target objective
3.    Who is your target & What do they want
4.    How will you deliver their goals to them?

My Example:
1.    I am a GURU / S.M.E because I know how to focus my skills for media and marketing attention. (Google!)
2.    My objective is to get more marketing related opportunities with Trials.
3.    My target is the marketing world of ad & media agencies, and growing companies looking for a boost where they are looking for differentiation, product exposure and a fresh appeal.
4.    I will deliver their goals through demonstrations, and scouting fusion marketing opportunities with a high degree of skill and personality.

TWEED

6 09 2009

It was certainly a weekend to remember at the legendary “Cordy Cottage” in TWEED, Ontario.

What an amazing place for a competition, bringing friends together and pushing your limits. I have definitely realized a few key aspects which I need to improve for my riding for next year!

Here are some pics from various sections, courtesy of Josh Laverty!

Aggressive Riding

16 08 2009

After a bit of an injury this summer, I’ve fully recovered, and more.

A favorite training spot of mine is in Port Credit, Ontario. Twenty minutes West of Toronto. ON this day, we found an interesting obstacle setup where I practiced some endurance / power moves.
